Using chunky wool (or two strands of double knitting) and 9mm (UK size 00) needles, cast on 45 stitches.

Row 1 K3 P2 to end

Row 2 K2 P3 to end

Work 10 rows of this rib

Then in stocking stitch (knit a row, purl a row) work 26 rows Shape crown.

Row 1 K2tog K1 to end Row 2 Purl

Row 3 K1 K2tog to end Row 4 Purl

Cut off wool, gather remaining stitches and sew up.

You can use up scraps of wool to make patterns, or add bobbles
